Good Morning! Today for Black History Month, we celebrate Elijah McCoy, an inventor known for his work improving the railroad industry. His invention, the lubricating cup, allowed engines to run smoother and more efficiently, making transportation faster and safer. His contributions were so important that people began asking for the 'real McCoy' to refer to his inventions.
What a great night at MGS! 4th grade recorders and 5th grade band put on an outstanding performance for family and friends! Thank you to all the students and Ms. Trotter for all their hard work!
Today, we recognize Lewis Howard Latimer for Black History Month. Latimer was an inventor and electrician who worked alongside Thomas Edison and Alexander Graham Bell. Latimer made important improvements to the electric light bulb and contributed to the development of early telephone technology. His work has lit up the world in ways in which we still benefit from today.

Today, we celebrate Black History Month with Madam C.J. Walker, a groundbreaking entrepreneur and inventor of hair care products for Black women. Her products helped women feel confident and beautiful, and her success made her the first female self-made millionaire in the United States.
Today for Black History Month we celebrate Lonnie Johnson, an inventor and engineer known for creating the Super Soaker water gun. His invention became one of the best-selling toys of all time, but it's important to remember that Lonnie Johnson was also an engineer who worked on NASA's space missions before becoming an inventor.

Today for Black History Month we honor Dr. Patricia Bath, and ophthalmologist who invented a laser device used in cataract surgery, which has restored vision to millions of people worldwide. Dr. Bath's groundbreaking work in medicine shows how one person's passion can make a lasting impact on the world.
Today for Black History Month we celebrate the incredible George Washington Carver, an agricultural scientist and inventor who revolutionized farming. He discovered over 300 uses for peanuts and improved crop rotation methods, making agriculture more sustainable and helping farmers grow healthier crops.

Today for Black History Month we recognize Marie Van Brittan Brown, the inventor of the home security system. In the 1960s, when she was concerned about safety in her neighborhood, she created a system that included a camera, monitor, and remote control to view the outside of her home. Her invention laid the foundation for the modern security systems we use today.
