His invention became one of the best-selling toys of all time, but it's important to remember that Lonnie Johnson was also an engineer who worked on NASA's space missions before becoming an inventor.

Today for Black History Month we recognize Marie Van Brittan Brown, the inventor of the home security system. In the 1960s, when she was concerned about safety in her neighborhood, she created a system that included a camera, monitor, and remote control to view the outside of her home. Her invention laid the foundation for the modern security systems we use today.
To continue our celebration of Black History Month, we want to celebrate Garrett Morgan, an inventor whose contributions have saved countless lives. Garrett Morgan created an early version of the traffic signal, helping to make our streets safer. He also invented the gas mask, which was used to save lives in hazardous situations like fires and even during wartime.

MGS is celebrating Black History Month—a time to recognize and honor the incredible achievements, contributions, and rich culture of African Americans throughout history. This month reminds us of the importance of learning about and understanding the stories that shape our world today.
We would like to take a moment to spotlight the founder of Black History Month, Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Dr. Woodson was a historian, educator, and passionate advocate for the study of Black history. In 1926, he established Negro History Week, which was the precursor to what we now celebrate as Black History Month. His goal was to ensure that the rich history and achievements of Black Americans were recognized and shared with the world. Thanks to his vision, Black History Month is now celebrated every February across the United States and around the world.
As we celebrate Black History Month, let's also take a moment to reflect on the struggles and sacrifices made by countless individuals in the fight for equality and justice. Many people, both in the past and today, have fought, and continue to fight, for a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. Let's carry this spirit of remembrance and action throughout the month and beyond. Together, we can continue to make our world a better place for all. Happy Black History Month!
